MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

2022 Twins Camp Dates Set

Tentative Reunion Game Date Also In Place

As a result of our recently completed discussions with the Minnesota Twins, Ultimate Sports Adventures, LLC, is thrilled to announce that we will once again be delivering the Official Minnesota Twins Fantasy Camp for 2022.  The dates for the 2022 Camp are January 8th – 15th, 2022, with suggested travel dates of Saturday, January 8th (please plan an arrival by mid afternoon on the opening Saturday) and a hotel check-out and departure date of Sunday, January 16th, 2022.

We know from our many contacts with our camp family members that many of you missed participating in camp week this past January.  We can assure you, we did too!  We’re praying that the pandemic’s impact as a result of the vaccine will be greatly mitigated by next January and are planning accordingly.  We’re anxious to see everyone back on the field next year!

As communicated in our newsletter from last fall, announcing the cancellation of the 2021 Camp, we do have a list of all of the participants of the 2020 Camp that had communicated their interest in exercising the “Early Bird” discount for 2021.  We’re happy to announce to those returning campers that we will be providing that discount for the 2022 camp.

Last year at this time we had already registered 120 campers for 2021.  We know that circumstances can change – even in a normal year.  We had several first year or “Rookie” campers included in that list.  In order to know who is planning to return in 2022, we are asking that you please go to our website at www.yuratwin.com and complete a new registration for 2022.  We anticipate another large camp in 2022 and are already receiving inquiries from new campers as we write this newsletter.  The 2020 camp was a ten team camp, and we fully believe that the 2022 camp could be the third 10 team camp in our history.  Deposits for the 2022 camp will be taken around the first of April.  Even if you have already contacted us in the past few months, we ask that you please go the website and complete a new registration.

We also certainly missed seeing everyone at Target Field last year for our annual Camp Reunion Day.  There are still too many unanswered issues and potential problems with the on-going pandemic to confirm a firm date (if any) for this summer.  The Twins however, have tentatively penciled us in for Saturday, September 18th, 2021.  You may want to put that date on your calendar as well.  The Club is in hopes of knowing by June 1st whether the reunion will be possible.  We will then communicate with all of you.

We Remember Twins Camp Hall of Fame Pro Staff Member – Julio Becquer

Since we last communicated by newsletter, beloved Twins Camp Pro Staff member and Hall of Fame member, Julio Becquer has passed away on November 1, 2020.  If you were fortunate enough to attend a camp in which Julio was present, you will never forget that infectious smile.  If you had the chance to talk baseball with him, you quickly discovered a man who an amazing knowledge of the game and was so very willing to share it with you.  His role as a spirited defense attorney at Camp Kangaroo Court proceedings were legendary!

Julio, a native of Cuba, was born on December 20, 1931.  He attended the University of Havana and began his professional baseball career in the United States began with the Washington Senators in 1952.  Over his seven years in the Majors, he played for the Washington Senators, the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels.  He played on the final Washington Senators team in 1960, and was claimed by the Angels in the expansion draft of 1961.  He returned to Twins (former Senators) in June of 1961, the Twins inaugural year in Minnesota.  He retired from baseball as a Twin in 1963.

Julio Becquer

1931 – 2020

He loved Minnesota and after baseball worked for Daytons Department store until he retired.  A familiar face at many Twins games and a gentleman in every definition of the term.  He was proceeded in death by his wife Edith and son Jose.  He was survived by his daughter Frannie, son Pedro, four grandchildren and countless friends.  On behalf of everyone at the Twins Camp, we wish to extend our sincere sympathies to the Becquer family, to his great friends, Tony & Gordette Oliva, Camilo & Raquel Pascual, Juan Berenguer, and to his many, many friends throughout the upper Midwest.

Thank You Julio!  You Are Missed!
