Camp Gathering at the Cage in Sioux Falls Details!

 

 

In our last update we had a “Mark Your Calendar” reminder for the approaching summer. Brian Slipka, 2024 Twins Camp rookie and owner of the Sioux Falls Canaries suggested that a Twins Camp gathering in Sioux Falls, with a chance for Twins Camp alums to play inside the Bird Cage might be fun. To that end, we have had follow-up discussions with Brian and Canaries President, Brian Jamros. 

 

The date for the event has been set with a couple of “book end” opportunities that we’d love to include if the response is good.  The Canaries play at home vs. Fargo-Morehead on Sunday, June 16th at the Cage.  A mixer for campers has been discussed that evening at the Bird Cage.  We’d gather in one of the suites and relive some of our camp experiences.  The following day, June 17th, is an off day for the Canaries and we would plan on playing Monday inside the Canary’s Stadium.  How many games would be determined by the response that we get.  An early afternoon first pitch would probably be in order to allow anyone driving to Sioux Falls to save an overnight by driving in that morning.

 

Speaking of overnights, Brian Jamros has reached out to several hotels and motels in Sioux Falls regarding a possible block of rooms at a discounted price.  Because those commitments do require a minimum number of rooms, carry with it a financial commitment and we have no history to work with, we have decided to allow participants to make their own overnight arrangements.  We have learned that there is a large number of youth tournaments taking place this week in June and rooms are in high demand, so if your thinking about over nighting, you should begin looking into rooming options now.

 

Finally, the Chicago Dogs and their pitching coach, Stu Cliburn invade Sioux Falls the following day at 6:35 PM at the Cage, on Tuesday, June 18th.  We’re hoping some of you would be able to join us for that game as well.

 

Whose Eligible to Join Us?

 

This event is open to anyone who has attended the Minnesota Twins Camp.  You did not have to have attended the 2024 Camp.  We know we have lots of alums that live in easy driving range to Sioux Falls.  We’d love to see as many of you there as possible.

 

We do need to get an idea on how many of you there are.  We had a great show of hands at the evening of our final banquet, but we now have dates locked in and really need to know how many of you can be with us in order for us to plan effectively.  Please let us know if you plan on being with us for the:

                                     Sunday evening event

                                     The game in the Cage

                                     The game vs. the Chicago Dogs. 

 

We need to know if you’re in for all three or which individual events you plan on joining us. We’d love to have a crowd for all three.  This is an incredible opportunity to play in a wonderful venue and to reconnect with your Twins Camp family.

New Twins Uniform Now Available

Through the Twins Camp

 

Several of you had asked us during the January camp, about the possibility of procuring the new style Twins uniform. We waited a year to making the new uniform available through the camp in order for Nike to get a year under their belt. 

 

If you are interested in ordering the new uniform for next January’s camp, we have been informed that we have to have our order to Nike by no later than May 1st, 2024, in order to insure delivery in time for camp.  That would mean that we would need to hear from you by no later than April 26th, 2024. 

 

The cost of the new uniform set is going to be somewhere between $600-$650.  We don’t yet have the exact cost That price would include a personalized Home & Road jersey, a new pair of pants with the red-white & blue piping, as well as a new scarlet colored belt. If you have followed the MLBPA issue with the new Nike fabric for this season, you know that the pants are pretty sheer.  If it’s an issue with young, finally tuned athletes, it may be a consideration for those of us who linger at the Training table a bit too long.  Our cost on the pants alone is over $130 per pair.  If you might be interested in securing your own white pants that you know fit you well, vs. ordering the pants through us, we may have another option to discuss with you. 

 

However, if you want to order the jerseys, we are requiring that you purchase both the Home and Road jersey.  Prices on those jerseys are somewhat dependent on size.  Any size over a 48″ chest are more expensive.  But any of these personalized jerseys are over $225 each. These costs for both the pants and jerseys does not include the shipping costs to us.

 

If you do want to purchase a new uniform, we’ll need the following information from you no later than April 26th.  We will also need to have your deposit for the 2024 camp to us by that date in order for us to include your uniforms in our camp order.  The information we need includes:

 

Jerseys –   

           Chest size (even sizes only in 40-44-48-52-56)

           Correct Spelling of your name as you want it to appear on the back of the jersey

            The Number you want on the Jerseys

 

Pants –

        Waist size (even waist size only, ie: 32 -34 – 36 – etc)

        Style – Pro Style – open cuff – worn over the top of your cleats

            or Short, Knicker style – slightly below the knee as worn by Buxton & others

 

If you elect the Pro Style – we’ll need to know your inseam.  This seems to be the most challenging piece of information to get correct.  Please double check your inseam by either measuring it yourself, or by looking at the inseam sizing of your jeans or dress slacks.
