Twins Camp Hall of Fame Member Witness to His Son Playing in this Year’s CWS!
John Torniero’s son MIchael and his Central Conneticut State University squad qualified for this year’s D-1 NCAA Tournament.

Central Connecticut Central’s standout outfielder, Michael Torniero takes a lead in 2023 College action.
We don’t believe we’re taking too much license when we say that for most Dads, witnessing his son or daughter participate, at any level, in the game we all love is among life’s greatest joys. When that child excels on the field and at the NCAA Division I level, it’s hard to fully comprehend or appreciate. But that’s exactly the dream that Twins Camp standout and Hall of Fame member, John Torniero and his family have been living.
Michael Torniero and his Blue Devil teammates qualified for this year’s NCAA event by winning the Northeast Collegiate Conference. The Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 36-12 and claimed the 2023 Northeast Conference title. It was Central Connecticut’s first CWS appearance since 2021. The Blue Devils played an incredible schedule that included an early season trip to Louisiana to play the 2023 National Champion Louisiana State University Tigers. “That was an incredible opportunity for Michael and his teammates”, commented JT. “We were obviously pulling for LSU in the finals because of that connection.”

Connecticut Central is coached by Charlie Hickey who is in his 24th season at the helm of the Blue Devils. CCSU played in the Columbia, SC, Region which was hosted by South Carolina University. North Carolina State and Campbell University joined South Carolina and CCSU as this region’s field. The Columbia Region was paired with the Gainesville Region that produced this year’s Tournament runner-up, the University of Florida Gators.
If you attended this year’s fantasy camp, you may have caught a glimpse of MIchael taking some swings in the batting cages. He was the guy that looked like he knew what he was doing in there. Michael was one of the team’s true leaders as a result on his performance on and off the field. On the field this past season he hit for an amazing .326 average, with 25 runs scored and 25 rbi. He carded 9 doubles and a homerun along the way. He had 11 multi-hit games, a 7 game hitting streak, had 3 hits & 4 RBI during a game on May 14th, and was 7-7 with 5 runs batted in in a pair of NEC Championship Round games vs. Wagner . Mike batted a sizzling .528 in the conference tournament and was selected to the NEC All Tournament team.
As good as his offensive game is, he really shined on defense where he had a 1.000 fielding percentage with 106 putouts. “I don’t know how we could be any prouder of Michael and all that he’s accomplished. He works hard at developing his skill set, and that hard work shows up everytiime he takes the field”, concluded John.

Michael & his Dad show off their championship plaques that they earned in a Legends tournament they participated in earlier in their careers.
While not all of us Dad’s will have the opportunity that JT has had, we are thrilled each year when we play host to so many Father-Son and Father-Daughter combinations that have blessed the camp and made the experience so much richer for all of us.
On behalf of everyone at the Twins Camp, Congratulations to both Michael & John! We wish Michael all the best for continued success as he continues his baseball journey!
