Gene Larkin was one of the fortunate few to have ever been part of a World Championship Season in his rookie year. A New York State native, Gene attended College at Columbia University where he broke many of the offensive records of legendary Lou Gehrig. In his seven years with the Twins, Gene established himself as clutch hitter and was asked to pinch hit in many key situations with the club. None of those were any more critical than his 10th inning appearance in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series with the Atlanta Braves. Gene's pinch hit single to left brought home Dan Gladden from third and secured a 1-0 Twins win for Starting and Game winning pitcher, Jack Morris. Game 7 of the 1991 Series is considered one of the greatest in World Series History and Gene will always hold a key place in Twins History.
