Over 70 Participate in 2014 Target Field Reunion Game!

It was a beautiful day for baseball at one of the country's most beautiful ballparks - Target Field!

Late September in Minnesota can mean almost any kind of weather.  As veterans from the 2014 Twins Fantasy Camp and Rookies for the 2015 Camp gathered at Target Field on Saturday, September 27th, they were welcomed by one of the warmest and most picturesque days that a Camp Director could possibly dream of!  The annual Camp Reunion Event is truly one of the highlights of the year and 2014 was no exception.  Seventy-one Campers, which this year included 23 "Rookies", had the baseball experience of a lifetime when they squared off for two camp games at one of the most beautiful venues in all of professional sports.  The 23 Rookies were a record number for our reunion event, and included two female campers.

The four camp teams were led by veteran campers and Camp Hall of Fame members.  Team #1 was captained by Dave Hinnekamp and John Moore.  Team #2 was led by Dr. Barry Karon, Eric Nelson and Fr. Stan Mader.  Team #3's leaders were Dan Williams and Paul Bennett and our 4th squad answered to Paul Smith and Dr. Phil Prosapio.  Thank you guys for your leadership!

Campers were provided the additional thrill of being joined by some of the members of the Camp's Pro Staff.  Those members that were able to join us included Twins greats Kent Hrbek, Tony Oliva, Frank Quilici and Julio Becquer.  They were also able to rub elbows with members of the Camp's Clubhouse team with the appearance of Wayne "Big Fella" Hattaway and Twins Rehab specialist, Lanning Tucker.  We also want to thank Camp Coach and Twins Instructional Clinic participant, John Wilkens for dropping by.

Campers were cheered on by a nice crowd of families, friends and fans who seemed to be as excited about watching their favorite star in action as the camp participants were in taking their swings at Target Field.

Following the game action the party moved on to the other side of the river when at 6:30 PM, campers and family members were treated to a buffet of mouthwatering entrees at Dixie's on Grand Avenue in St. Paul.  Camp Hall of Fame member and Principal at Dixie's, Abby Geisler and her team did a fantastic job of welcoming and extending their "Dixie's" hospitality to a hungry and thirsty group of campers.

At 7:30 PM another Camp Hall of Fame member, Jim Lundeen and his Road House Blue Band performed for the camper's listening and dancing pleasure.  Jim and the guys did a fantastic job of covering rock & roll, blues, country and easy listening ballads.  "We truly want to thank Jim and his guys, as well as the entire team at Dixie's for another fantastic event," said Camp Director Stan Dickman.  "The gathering at Dixie's is a great opportunity to rekindle great friendships made at camp.  We also received several notes from first time campers telling us how much they appreciated the opportunity to get to know their fellow rookies and to gain first-hand insights on the camp experience from the many veterans in attendance.  Without the work of Jim, Abby and their teams - that just doesn't happen".

The camp wishes to again thank Dave St. Peter and the Minnesota Twins for the opportunity for our campers to gather and to "Big Leaguers" for the day!  Thanks also to our veteran and rookie campers for joining us on Saturday.  We can assure you - we had as much fun as you did!

Father & Son combinations are one of the truly "cool" aspects of the camp experience.  In 2014 the Camp had 16 Father/Son or Father/Daughter combinations.  Here Doug Doescher (left) and son Derek, share a momoent at Target Field during the 2014 Reunion Game.
