Bill "Soup" Campbell made his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins on July 14, 1973. He very quickly earned the reputation of being one of the game's most effective relief pitchers and rose to the top of his craft with the Twins in 1976 and the Red Sox in 1977. He signed with the Red Sox in the '76 off season as one of the first high profile big money fee agents in baseball. Soup was elected to the American League All-Star team in 1977, and was awarded both the Fireman of the Year by Sporting News Magazine and Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Awards in both 1976 and 1977. Bill is tied for the American League record for wins by a reliever in a single season, as a result of his 17-5 performance with the Twins in 1976. He led the American League in saves with 31 in 1977 as a Red Sock. Soup finished with a career record of 83-68, 126 saves and an impressive 3.54 ERA.
