Julio Becquer played six seasons in the major leagues, starting in 1955 with the Washington Senators. Despite his short stint with the Los Angeles Angels in 1961, Julio is considered to be one of the "Original Twins" joining the team in Minnesota's inaugural season of 1961. A solid defensive first baseman, Julio was also a valuable utility player and played several games in the outfield for both the Senators and the Twins. His utility value even extended to the mound where twice he was used as a relief pitcher. Julio was considered among the real "gentlemen" in the game and earned the respect of his teammates and opponents with his contagious smile and great sense of humor.
