Steve
Lombardozzi

Steve Lombardozzi was drafted in the 8th round of the 1981 MLB Draft and immediately assigned to the Elizabethan Twins of the Appalacian League.  There he hit .361 with 6 homers and 35 RBI.  He made his MLB debut on July 12, 1985, and shared time in the rest of that season between the Twins AAA team and the major leagues.  In 1986, he went north with the Twiins out of Spring Training and became their starting second baseman for the next three seasons, including the club's 1987 World Series Championship year.  He led all hitter in the '87 World Series with an incredible .412 batting average, which included a 5th inning single in Game 6 that broke a 5-5 tie that eventually led to a Twins 11-6 win over the St Louis Cardinals and a Game 7.  "Lombo" was also know for his Gold Glove caliber play at second base where he led all American League second basemen for the 1986 season with a .991 fielding percentage.  Steve's son, Stephen Lombardozzi Jr., is also a professional baseball  player, having played with the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins.
