Jeff began his professional career with the New York Mets in 1977 when he signed a minor league contract. He quickly made his way through the Mets organization, Making his MLB debut on August 25, 1979. In 1981 he was traded to the Montreal Expos who smartly moved him to the back of the bullpen where he earned the nickname "Terminator" for his success as a closer. Many would argue that he was the key addition to the 1987 Twins squad that would go on to win a World Series Championship. He was named the "Rolaids Relief Man" of the year in 1985 and was a 4 time All-Star selection in '85, '86, '88 and 1991. Jeff was the first MLB pitcher in history to record 40 or more saves in both the National & American Leagues.
